The Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev David Lunan, is set to commence the first of a series of trips around Scotland with a visit to the Church of Scotland's Presbytery of Kirkcaldy.

The Presbytery covers a wide area of east central Fife, encompassing both Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy as well as those coastal communities between Burntisland and Leven, plus the adjacent landward districts.

The Moderator will be in the area between 23 and 31 August, during which he will be undertaking a variety of different engagements. He will be visiting the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where he will learn more about stroke rehabilitation work, before calling in at the Maggie's Centre.

The Rev Lunan will also be visiting the Fife Constabulary headquarters in Glenrothes, during which he will meet with the recently appointed police chaplain and learn about the Force's approach to child offenders.

The Moderator will be visiting Kirks across the area, from Kinghorn to Kennoway, and from Pathhead and Dysart, to Leven, Methil and Buckhaven. Education will also be a key theme of the visit, with trips planned to Balwearie High, Kirkcaldy as well as Glenrothes's Carleton Primary.

David Lunan will be paying tribute to the industrial heritage of the Kingdom of Fife with a visit to the Dubbie Pit memorial at the Frances Colliery.

Speaking in advance of his visit, the Rt Rev David Lunan, said: "I am delighted to be able to commence my annual series of Presbytery visits in the Kirkcaldy area. The communities of this part of Fife represent both town and country, with rural and industrial areas side by side.

"The schedule that has been prepared is a busy one, but I look forward to speaking to as many people as possible, and learning more about our local congregations and the areas that they serve."
