'Bourne 5' cast news: Julia Stiles back, might add Viggo Mortensen as villain

The fifth film in the "Bourne" franchise sees the return of director Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon, and according to a new report, Julia Stiles will also make a come-back.

According to a report from Deadline, Stiles will reprise her role as covert agent Nicky Parsons in the currently untitled fifth film although it hasn't been confirmed if she will only be in for a short cameo or if her character will play a substantial role in the film's plot.

The actress was in all three "Bourne" films that starred Damon but did not appear in "The Bourne Legacy" which focused on Jeremy Renner's character, Aaron Cross. Her character became an unlikely ally for Jason Bourne and ended up fleeing from the CIA at the end of "The Bourne Ultimatum" where she was forced to assume a new identity.

It was hinted that Nicky Parsons had a relationship with Jason Bourne prior to him losing his memory. It is speculated by fans that the new villain in the film might chase after Parsons in order to lure out Bourne.

As for the villain, a report from Collider states that actor Viggo Mortensen, famous for playing Aragorn in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, has been offered the role for the film's lead antagonist. It has not yet been confirmed at this point if Mortensen has agreed to the offer.

The report also states that actress Alicia Vikander, who gained popularity after her performance in "Ex Machina," is in talks for an unspecified role.

As for Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross, producer Frank Marshall confirmed in an interview with Slash Film that the character will not be in "Bourne 5" and that "The Bourne Legacy" will get its own sequel. However, it is possible that the two may cross over in the future.

"Bourne 5" begins production in London this fall and is currently slated for a July 29, 2016 release.
