BMS World Mission is on the lookout for a new batch of Christian medical professionals with a heart to serve and care for the vulnerable this spring after recruitment for the first BMS medical team to Lebanon started last week, the mission group has announced.

This year's dispatch to troubled Lebanon follows similar expeditions by BMS medical teams to countries such as Bangladesh and Uganda.

BMS is actively seeking paramedics, community health-workers, GPs, nurses and other medical professionals willing to sacrifice two to three weeks in April or May this year and serve in Lebanon as part of the medical team.

The Lebanon medical team will work to bring basic healthcare, health education, vaccination programmes and similar help to communities that have little access to such services.

BMS Volunteer Programme Co-ordinator, Ruth Robinson, says that the team will be "a good way to follow up relief funds by showing practical love and care to people who were affected by the recent war".

She wants to encourage Christians with medical skills to volunteer not only for the sake of helping the people of Lebanon, but because the experience of being part of such a team is so very rewarding.

"On every medical team we have sent, people have come back challenged and changed, having stepped out of their comfort zones," she said. "We find that people have served on a team once they end up wanting to go again and again. It is a very rewarding experience and we expect the Lebanon Team will be the same."
