The Bible Society and the Welsh Books Council have produced the first ever recording of the entire New Testament in Welsh. The Voice (or ‘Y Llais’) was launched at thi summer’s Eisteddfod and has been produced on both CD and audio cassette formats.

The New Testament in Welsh will go on sale for the very first time, and the Bible Society say will enable people to hear the truth of the Gospel in the beautiful language of welsh.

Well-known Welsh personalities play leading parts in T Llais, for example Jesus is voiced in the recording by Elfyn – the acclaimed actor from the Treflan series. Dr Alun Evans, famous for his work with the Eisteddfod, BBC news journalist Ben Thomas and actor Rhys Parry Jones all play central figures in the production.

The Bible Society testify the work stating in a press release that audio of the Bible play a key role in helping people worldwide to engage with the Bible in their own language.

The Bible Society’s Welsh Development Manager, Watcyn James said, “Y Llais has been eagerly awaited by fluent Welsh speakers as well as school teachers and those just beginning to learn the Welsh language. Hearing the New Testament in Welsh really brings alive the Bible’s message.”

Y Llais will include daily listening plans, music and sound effects, and audio extracts can be heard on the website at www.beiblcymraeg.org. The CD’s and tapes can be purchased from Welsh bookshops or alternatively by calling the Bible Society Resources on 08707 747676.
