The Sony Xperia line will finally get the much awaited Android Lollipop 5.0 OS update after the company formally announced the rollout through Twitter.

This means that users of the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 tablet will be getting an OS jump from the current Android KitKat OS. The worldwide OTA rollout is expected to be already available although this will still depend on the carrier and region of the users.

For those who are still unaware, Android 5.0 Lollipop will blend in Sony's updated software with Google's new Material Design OS. Other features to expect include the Android for Work app and a slew of productivity tools which can be viewed on the specialized app store called Google Play for Work.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop will also provide users better storage control. This means that users will be able to move applications from the device's internal memory to the SD card when required.

Aside from the Xperia Z3 line, Sony bared that their other lines will also be getting and Android 5.0 Lollipop bump soon.

That includes the Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet although there was no mention on when this would actually happen. The same holds true for the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 which Sony bared would be receiving the Android Lollipop update 'soon'.

Of course, the imminent availability of the Android 5.0 Lollipop could be met with apprehension for some people who want to see if applying the said patch would indeed be wise.

Hence, for those who are wary of applying the latest Android OS, it would be best to hold off applying the OTA update, should it be already available for downloading and eventual application to concerned devices.
