Blizzard apparently has no intention of making "World of Warcraft 2."
That was the message conveyed by "World of Warcraft" executive producer J. Allen Brack in an interview with IGN.
Brack added that he personally doesn't think sequels to massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) necessarily work as they are designed to do. He went on to say that nearly all of the sequels that have been made specifically for MMOs have been failures of some kind and that Blizzard is very aware of that track record.
As for whether or not Blizzard may be working on any other MMO if not a possible sequel to "World of Warcraft," Brack said that the company is fully focused on the current game, and that the team behind the game is already working on ideas for the next expansion.
Brack's proclamation regarding an unlikely sequel being released for "World of Warcraft" comes at the heels of "StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void" producer Tim Morten's comments that "StarCraft 3" or "Warcraft 4" could be in the cards for Blizzard, according to Gamespot.
There is a difference between the games of course, as both "StarCraft" and "Warcraft" are real-time strategy (RTS) titles, while "World of Warcraft" is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
In related news, Blizzard has given fans a closer look at the upcoming "Legion" expansion for "World of Warcraft," according to PC Mag.
None other than Illidan Stormrage is being prominently featured in a trailer for "Legion." The trailer ultimately stops short of indicating that Stormrage will be back in "World of Warcraft," although that is widely assumed to be the case.
Blizzard also gave fans a sneak preview at some of the new features they can try out once "Legion" is released, including the increased level cap of 110 and the new hero class known as Demon Hunter.
No official release date for "Legion" has so far been announced.
