"Wayward Pines" was slated to run for only one season. However, the series was well-received by fans that they ended up wanting more after the finale, and are asking if there will be a second season.
Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman spoke at the 2015 TCA Summer Press Tour about the widely successful "Wayward Pines" and their plans for season 2.
"In an ideal world, we would be making that decision relatively soon," said Newman, as reported by Zap2it. "Ideally we'd like to bring it back right where we had it this year, because it really had a pretty great season."
If season 2 is already in the works, where is the story heading?
In an interview with Deadline, executive producer M. Night Shyamalan simply replied, "We have an idea we've discussed. That's all I'll say."
This is undoubtedly an attempt by Shyamalan to stop divulging too much about the possible direction of the upcoming season. However, it is rumored based on an interview with showrunner Chad Hodge that Hassler, a character introduced in the latter part of season 1, might be a possible contender in anchoring the story for season 2. This can be easily connected with what Shyamalan said to Deadline on how he tells a story on screen.
"I knew where I wanted to go. I knew I wanted the fences to come down..." he said.
Perhaps everything was already set as far as Shyamalan is concerned, who, aside from being an executive producer of the show, also collaborates with author Blake Crouch, the man behind the story of "Wayward Pines." Hassler might as well hold the key in getting the story going in season 2 and provide a new dimension to "Wayward Pines."
