The issues at the quarterback position for the Washington Redskins specifically with Robert Griffin III are not done yet. However, the team already has a starter for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins and it will be Kirk Cousins.

According to NFL.com, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden informed the team of Cousins starting in Week 1 during a team meeting Monday.

Cousins emerged as a starter after independent neurologist Robert N. Kurtzke said Griffin must rest for one to two weeks following thorough assessment of his neuropsychology data.

Before that, Kurtzke had given Griffin clearance and he was practicing with the Redskins for the whole week ahead of their preseason match facing the Baltimore Ravens last Saturday.

Because of Kurtzke's findings, Griffin was not permitted to play in their game against the Ravens, in which they won 31–13.

Griffin was thriving in training camp but during their second preseason game against the Detroit Lions, he was hit a number of times and he left the game after a Lions player fell on top of him.

The Redskins said following the match that Griffin suffered a concussion but he denied it.

Cousins played majority of the snaps in their game against the Ravens completing 20 of his 27 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown, although he threw an interception.

In the 2014 season, Cousins only played in six games completing 126 of 204 passes for 1,710 yards but he threw for 10 touchdowns.

Cousins' 10 touchdowns last season were more than what Griffin and backup Colt McCoy produced in 2014 as they only threw a combined eight touchdowns in 14 games.

Before being named a starter, the 27-year-old athlete said, according to ESPN, "If I want to stay in this league, I've got to be ready all the time. If they want me to start, I'll do my best, but that's weeks away."

ESPN also reported that because of Griffin's situation, a source said the Redskins are looking to part ways with him and other sources stated that discussions for a trade took place.
