Viewers will witness the Dome collapsing all around Chester's Mill in the upcoming season finale of the CBS science fiction drama series "Under the Dome."
In "The Enemy Within," Cartermatt reports that the barrier separating the townspeople from the outside world will finally come crashing down. As the world crumbles around them, The Resistance, led by Barbie (Mike Vogel), Julia (Rachelle Lefevre), and Big Jim (Dean Norris) will try one last time to save as many people as they can.
The outside world is in danger of getting swamped by the infected people of Chester's Mill and the Kinship, including Sam (Eddie Cahill) and Junior (Alexander Koch). The International Business Times reports that the "earth shattering" finale will see the residents relishing their first taste of freedom after being trapped for a long time.
In the promo released by CBS, fans will be witnessing "all sorts of eye-widening moments." Big Jim would purportedly unleash the beast within him and go ballistic, throwing punches all round. Barbie and Julia will be nearly swallowed by a fissure that suddenly opened in the earth. Truly, chaos will be all around as everyone scrambles for safety before the final moment tick by for the Dome.
During the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler revealed that the barrier would indeed crumble in the season finale. That time, it remained unclear whether the network would be renewing the series for season 3.
Recently, CBS has announced its decision to end the show. Variety reports that in an official statement, Tassler said that they credit the "successful rollouts" of "Extant" and "Zoo" to the "Dome's" event storytelling and multiplatform business model.
"Two years ago, 'Under the Dome' broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world. We're excited to present the final chapter in Chester's Mill as the story comes full circle, with the dome coming down as dramatically as it went up."
"Under the Dome" series finale airs Thursday, Sept. 10 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
