'Transformers 5: The Last Knight' release date, spoilers: Classic character set to appear

"Transformers: The Last Knight" will be bringing back several characters from the old films such as Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox Williams but it will also be introducing characters from the older cartoons. As reported by Cinema Blend, the official "Transformers" Twitter account has posted an image of the Autobot known as Hot Rod.

Hot Rod is a fan-favorite Transformer and was initially introduced back in the 1986 animated film, where he started as a young Autobot that eventually inherited the Matrix of Power. This transformed him into Rodimus Prime, the true successor to Optimus Prime.

The Twitter post also reveals that this iteration of Hot Rod depicts him as a long-time friend of Bumblebee, a mainstay of the film series. Hot Rod stands at a height of 16 feet and he is described to be brash, arrogant but also a sturdy protector.

/Film speculates that the reason Hot Rod's vehicle form was not revealed was because the Transformer might also be a Camaro, similar to vehicle form of Bumblebee. This would make sense given that they are brothers-in-arms and have been together for a long time.

The report continues to state that introducing Hot Rod may mean "Transformers: The Last Knight" wil kill off Optimus Prime, allowing the events to play out so that Hot Rod becomes the new leader of the Autobots when he finally turns into Rodimus Prime in this film or in the sixth entry in the series.

The other Autobots confirmed for the film include Bumblebee, the tiny Transformer known as Squeaks and Drift. Megatron will be returning as the leader of the Decepticons but he will be joined by Onslaught and a returning Barricade.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" will open in theaters on June 23, 2017.
