The finale of the seventh season of "The Vampire Diaries" aired almost two months ago, with the final shot showing the vampires Damon and Enzo stringing up the bodies of their victims.

Because of the many questions and haunting images left by the past season, loyal viewers of the supernatural drama are already very excited to know what's in store for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Here is another reason to get even more pumped up for the next season of "The Vampire Diaries": one of the show's main protagonists from Season 1 to 6, Nina Dobrev, is rumored to return in the upcoming episodes of the show. Dobrev played Elena Gilbert, who falls in love with the vampire brothers in the TV series.

According to Australia Network News, rumors of Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" started to circulate when the guy she is believed to be dating, posted a photo of him and the actress during Coachella 2016 with a caption "Having a fun time at Coachella with this vampire," along with a winking emoji.

It can be recalled that Dobrev's character was temporarily put asleep and was put in a coffin to let her best friend, Bonnie, live.

In an interview with TV Line, "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec meanwhile revealed that the whole gang is heading west to save Damon and Enzo, although she remained tightlipped on what evil forces took over these two characters.

"We are not calling it anything, we are waiting for Season 8. I mean, internally, we're calling it something, but we're not telling people what that is yet," Plec told TV Line.

"It's funny, this is the first time we've done this little story trick where we're actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season," she added.
