"The Originals" season 4 may see Kol Mikaelson (Nathaniel Buzolic) depart and try to get himself as far away from the family following the season 3 finale and the death of Davina (Danielle Campbell). As he tries to carve out his own story, free from his family, he will be bonding with Rebekah (Claire Holt) more than ever before.

Fans of the series will recall that during the season 3 finale, Kol was resurrected by Davina, but at the last moment, he was possessed by the Ancestors and with them using his body he unwillingly killed Davina. In a report from Entertainment Weekly, it is revealed Kol blames a lot of people for the bad luck that befell him.

It is stated that Kol blames Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Freya (Riley Voelkel) for their involvement in what happened, and Kol blames Klaus (Joseph Morgan) for everything, regardless of the latter's involvement. Because of this, he will be separating and bond with the only sibling that shares a similar opinion: Rebekah.

According to showrunner Julie Plec, Rebekah constantly questions what her life is outside of their family and what future she may have living on her own, and this is also something that Kol will have to face.

"Kol, interestingly enough, is asking himself those same questions," Plec explained. "The two of them are going to bond in a way that we haven't gotten to see so much about what their future is in this family and how much of this crazy they're expected to live through," she went on to say.

According to reports, it will take a long while before Kol actually gets to start a life of his own as the official trailer indicates that it will be years before Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) finds a cure, and in that span of time, Hope may have already grown up into an adult.

"The Originals" season 4 premieres Jan. 29 2017.
