'The Incredibles 2' latest updates: Director talks about challenges in crafting film

"The Incredibles 2," the sequel to the 2004 blockbuster hit that follows the adventures of a super-charged family of five, is finally in development. Fans have long demanded to see the adorable family once more, and after more than a decade of waiting, the film of their dreams has become official.

Director Brad Bird admitted that the biggest challenge in crafting the much-awaited film is setting it apart from the flurry of superhero movies floating around. While promoting his newest film "Tomorrowland," Bird shared his determination to set "The Incredibles 2" apart in an age when the silver screen is championed by superheroes.

"A lot of superhero films have been made since 'Incredibles' and it is kind of like an athletic field that's just kind of dried up dirt now, with a few clumps of grass," Bird told IGN. "I think the challenge is, how do you step outside of that and say, 'Hey, there's another place for our heroes to go.' So that's kind of the challenge."

Bird knows just how much superhero movies have evolved. He recognizes the moviegoers' and fans' towering expectations in films that involve cape- and mask-donning supers. Add to that the pressure of creating a film that is sought-after, one that fans always wanted to see.

There is this curiosity from the audience who wants to know what would happen next and what adventures Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack Jack will go through as a superpowered unit, and Bird wants to quench that curiosity in the best and most surprising way possible.

"I love those characters in 'Incredibles', but I'm also a moviegoer and I want to be surprised by movies. I want [the audience] to zig when they should be zagging," he said, pertaining to his goals for "The Incredibles 2."

At the moment though, Bird has nothing to share and no clues to drop about the premise or story of the sequel. There are rumors and theories about the return of a supervillain and Jack Jack's potential evilness. It is heavily rumored that there will also be a time jump, which will show Mr. and Mrs. Incredible becoming full time parents, with Violet, Dash and Jack Jack doing all the crimefighting.

This early on, there has yet to be a premiere date for "The Incredibles 2" but it looks like fans will have to wait a couple of years more to see their favorite superhero family in action.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
