'The Flash' season 3 release date spoilers: time travel causes problems for Barry

 The CW

"The Flash" season 3 will be utilizing the "Flashpoint" story from the comic books where Barry aka the Flash (Grant Gustin) changes history by going back and saving his mother. In a report from Screen Rant, it is revealed that this will cause a serious threat to Barry, one that only he will be able to understand and deal with.

"Barry's the only one that knows all of the differences," Gustin told the media outlet. "And, um... they haven't told me not to say this, so I guess I'll just kind of say it: while he is the only one that knows, he does slowly start to forget the original timeline. Kind of like a 'Back to the Future'-esque type thing, which is a pretty cool element."

Fans of the original story and those who have seen the DC Animated film "Flashpoint Paradox" will recall that this was also apparent in those versions of the story. The Flash was required to do everything possible to regain his speed and travel back to revert history to its original timeline before he would forget it ever existed.

Gustin went on to explain that season 3 would be introducing new dynamics such as the fact that Barry's parents were both alive and that his mother would be aged slightly, either through hair dye to give her an older look or something else, and that while Barry knows Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) their relationship is now different since he never grew up in the West family home.

The actor also confirmed that Tom Felton's character is now a part of the main team, as a member of the CSI, because the "Flashpoint" event took place and it is undetermined what may happen to him when Barry does manage to bring back the timeline to its original setting.

"The Flash" season 3 premieres this Oct. 4.
