'The Flash' movie casting news: Casting shortlist for Iris West released

Kiersey Clemons as seen in Extant CBS

Warner Bros. Pictures is currently developing their live-action "The Flash" movie starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen aka the Flash, who appeared in a short cameo in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." According to a report from Variety, the studios may have also found their ideal actress to portray Barry's love interest, Irist West.

According to the report, the studios are currently considering casting Kiersey Clemons, known for her work on "Dope," "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," and "Cloud 9." It is further speculated that she is being cast due to already having worked with director Rick Famuyiwa, who stepped in after Seth Grahame-Smith departed the project.

While Clemons, an African-American actress, is a far cry from the red-headed Caucasian depiction of Iris West from the comic books, fans are already accustomed to this type of pairing given that Iris is also portrayed by African-American actress Candice Patton in the CW series "The Flash."

The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit stated via Twitter that other than Clemons, the shortlist of potential actresses include Lucy Boynton and singer Rita Ora. Ora has some acting experience as she portrayed Mia in "Fifty Shades of Grey" and has done several British television shows.

Boynton, a notable British actress, has a significantly thicker acting resume and has appeared in "Sing Street" and has just completed work on the upcoming J.D. Salinger biopic "Rebel in the Rye."

As stated in a report from Cinema Blend, all three actresses are not prominent in the public eye and are not as famous as some of the other DCEU stars such as Ben Affleck and Amy Adams. This may be done to find new talent that could sustain a long career with the DCEU films or to avoid the stigma of associating a known star with their role.

"The Flash" will hit theaters in 2018 although Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to announce an offiical release date.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
