'The Elder Scrolls 6' release rumor: Next installment to roll out in 2019?

The Dragonborn prowling the streets in "Skyrim," the fifth installment story-wise for "The Elder Scrolls." Bethesda Softworks

Fans of the long-running and vast "The Elder Scrolls" franchise have been waiting patiently for the next installment, story-wise. The last one, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," was released in 2011.

However, it seems that fans will have to wait for a longer time, as speculations say the general release window for "The Elder Scrolls VI" is at the earliest 2019.

According to industry follow Crossmap, looking at the timeline, developer Bethesda Softworks published an installment for the series after almost four years. This is the case with previous "Elder Scrolls" titles. After the fifth main story, Bethesda scheduled this year the appearance of a rebranded "The Elder Scrolls Online." Based on the timeline, fans are looking for either late 2018 or early 2019 as the earliest release window for any upcoming "Elder Scrolls" iteration.

Meanwhile, although Bethesda has not come out and directly confirmed it, there are rumors that the studio is already hard at work on the next "The Elder Scrolls" title. According to Latinos Post, since "The Elder Scrolls" is one of the major franchises and game titles that Bethesda is known for, it follows that the studio already has some ideas on where to go from "The Elder Scrolls V," at the very least.

Being a major title, "The Elder Scrolls" franchise is also one of the top topics for every Bethesda appearance. In an earlier interview with the Telegraph, Bethesda's Pete Hines said, "It's rare to have franchises like the ones we have and to have people joking about when is 'Skyrim 2' coming out?"

Hines also indirectly pointed out that since "The Elder Scrolls Online" is their franchise's title for this year, an installment will take some time to appear. He said, after saying that if "The Elder Scrolls" is under another publisher, "They'd be spitting out a 'Skyrim 2' the year after or two years later. That's just not how we view it. We're not the sort of publisher that focuses on what's our 25 titles for 2015."
