Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) will need all the help they can get to defeat The Darkness in the upcoming season of The CW series "Supernatural."

TV Line reports that the Winchester brothers' combined skills will not be enough to overcome an evil force that predates even the Bible in season 11. Executive producer Jeremy Carver revealed in an interview that the boys might even tap on "some unholy alliances" with past characters to survive the ordeal. Does that mean asking help from old villains they have encountered and defeated before?

"They're going to have to confront some figures from their past. They're going to have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications," said Carver.

According to Carver, while Dean and Sam will do their best to fight the primal force, they will have difficulty figuring out what it is capable of doing; what it is really after; and essentially, how to defeat it. He said that the show will take its time unraveling the mystery, much to the frustration of the boys.

Meanwhile, the trailers released by the network for the upcoming installment show The Darkness in all its evilness. In one instance, Sam's eyelid is in danger of getting pulled off from his face. Hollywood Life reports that things are looking so bad that he will even ask help from God Himself to defeat this terrifying foe.

Last season, The Darkness was released after Dean was freed from the Mark of Cain. God was able to keep it at bay after locking it away for millions of years and for good reason it seems. The promos show how petrifying it can be, as utter mayhem can be seen all around the Winchester brothers.

Viewers also see in the clips that Castiel (Misha Collins) is still unwell. It appears that the angel is still trying to lift the attack dog spell that Rowena (Ruth Connell) cast on him last season.

"Supernatural" will return on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. EST on the CW.
