As one of the most anticipated games of 2017, no one doubted that Nintendo's "Super Mario Odyssey" would sell a lot of copies. However, the rate at which the game is selling is still surprising for many, as Nintendo had just announced that the game has already sold two million copies in only three days.

The news was released through Nintendo's financial earnings report, which gave an overview of how the company's titles are doing in the market. The company has sold seven million units of the Nintendo Switch, which means almost 30 percent of Switch owners have already purchased "Super Mario Odyssey."

This is the biggest launch for a Nintendo Switch title, and it also beats all game launches for the previous generation, the Wii U console.

In the same report, Nintendo mentioned plans of further increasing the popularity of the title. "We will endeavor to further increase the number of consumers who want to purchase Super Mario Odyssey," said the company, "and eventually we would like the game to be seen as an evergreen title that has longevity in the market beyond this holiday season."

Fans' anticipation of the game stems from the widespread popularity of the game franchise, as well as the game series' history of releasing excellent and creative video games. "Super Mario Odyssey" does not seem to disappoint. Since its release on Friday, the game has gotten many perfect score reviews praising its gameplay and originality.

At the rate that the latest Mario game is selling, it may be only a matter of time before it climbs to the top spot of the Switch's all-time sales charts. Currently holding the record as the top-selling Switch game is "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," another excellent Nintendo game that has garnered wide acclaim, with 4.7 million units sold. "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" comes next with 4.42 million copies sold.
