Players may take control of a giant dinosaur in "Super Mario Odyssey." Nintendo

One of the most anticipated games of this year, Nintendo's "Super Mario Odyssey," is coming this week. To make sure that players will be able to enjoy the game as soon as it gets released, those who have pre-ordered the title may now pre-download it.

The pre-loading of "Super Mario Odyssey" went live earlier this week for North American and European players. Eager players who did not order a physical copy of the title may begin downloading the data for the game, which would require 5.2 GB of storage space.

"Super Mario Odyssey" is the first big console Mario game released by Nintendo in quite some time, and video gaming fans all around the world are eagerly anticipating it. Big Super Mario games rarely disappoint fans and often showcase the inventiveness of its designers. With the title's legacy of creativity and the new generation technology offered by the Nintendo Switch, "Super Mario Odyssey" may prove to be one the biggest games of the year.

The new game introduces some new elements to the game series. In this game, Mario has the option to use his sidekick hat called Cappy to possess and take control of other characters within the game. The characters that he can control can range from Goombas, fireballs, and even a giant Tyrannosaurs Rex.

As suggested by its title, the game is themed around travel. Players will be taken to various, and often bizarre worlds to make friends with different characters and complete objectives. In previous trailers released by Nintendo, Mario is seen interacting with humans in New Donk City, the game's take on New York City.

The game is launching today exclusively on Nintendo Switch. It will be released alongside other giant releases from other game publishers. Bethesda is also releasing "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus," while Ubisoft is launching "Assassin's Creed Origins."
