'Stranger Things' season 2 release date, spoilers: showrunners discuss renewal and potential plot

 Netflix

"Stranger Things," one of the newest shows on Netflix, has been receiving highly positive reviews, and in an interview with IGN, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have explained that the show is very likely to be renewed for a second season and have hinted at what direction they are going for in season 2.

According to Matt, the show is one of the most popular and most highly rated shows on IMDB as of the time being which would indicate that the show is getting renewed soon despite the fact that Netflix did not announce season 2 during the Television Critics Association panel. It is further pointed out that "Sense8" season 2 was not announced during the 2015 TCA panel but was announced just a few weeks after.

In regards for the story of season 2, they did confirm that there would be a one-year time jump. The Duffer brothers did state that they wanted to continue right after the season 1 finale but some of the child actors, such as Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, are growing up. Matarazzo's voice had deepened so drastically during production that he could not even re-record his lines for post-production.

With this in mind, season 2 will take place a year after. The creators explained that bits of information regarding the events during the season gap will be explored, Joyce (Winona Ryder) will be more relaxed and calm and the cliffhanger regarding Will's (Noah Schnapp) health will become one of the main focuses for season 2.

The creators also explained that the scene where Chief Hopper (David Harbour) gets into a car with government agents will be explained as well. The Duffer brothers also stated that Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her current location will be showcased as well.

"Stranger Things" season 1 is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
