It was a short and not that sweet stint for cornerback Cary Williams as the Seattle Seahawks announced his release from the team last Monday, after only 10 appearances for them this 2015 regular season.

Williams was signed by Seattle in the offseason to a three-year, $18 million deal which has a guaranteed $7 million and a $3.5 million signing bonus.

The Seahawks inked Williams to a pact to replace cornerback Byron Maxwell who tested free agency and is now playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Unfortunately, things did not work out between the Seahawks and Williams, who found himself spending time on the bench in their Week 11 win over the San Francisco 49ers and was inactive in their next two games, despite being healthy.

In a report on the Seahawks website, head coach Pete Carroll spoke about the decision to part ways with Williams.

Carroll said the 30-year-old did a "nice job" of catching up with the Seahawks' technique despite having a short amount of time after being signed.

However, Carroll added, "But we feel more comfortable with the guys that have been with us, so we made the move."

Despite the release, Carroll had good words for Williams and the way he handled the past two weeks when he was listed as an inactive player in the roster.

"He was a real pro. He was a real pro. He worked hard in practice and all of that, his attitude was excellent. It didn't change him at all. He was fine," Carroll stated.

In the report, Carroll also revealed that the improving play of cornerback DeShawn Shead and the return of cornerback Jeremy Lane, were factors in releasing Williams.

Williams, who also played for the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, and the Philadelphia Eagles, is now a free agent but will still earn the guaranteed salary he has in his contract with Seattle.
