'Scream Queens' season 2 update: Renewal uncertain; Ryan Murphy teases new location and 10 new characters

"Scream Queens" salvaged itself in the season 1 finale. But is it enough to renew the show for another season? Actress Lea Michele and creator Ryan Murphy seem confident, with the latter even bouncing off ideas during a recent fan fright fest.

"Scream Queens" had a dip in ratings midseason, with some fans fearing its cancellation. But as Fortune noted in November, while the black comedy television series might not be delivering the overnight ratings, it was reflecting good numbers for delayed viewing, making FOX decide to keep it around.

With the two-hour season finale registering 2.53 million viewers, as reported by TV by the Numbers, it became one of its top five rated episodes, bringing in hope for the show's renewal.

Actress Lea Michele, who played the Red Devil in the fresmhan season, mentioned a possible renewal earlier this month to Entertainment Tonight. She even dropped hints to her character Hester finally becoming a victim, as Ryan Murphy told her that a new season will have a new killer.

Speaking of Ryan Murphy, the "Scream Queens" creator attended the New York City Fan Fright Fest in October. In the said event, he revealed that he has started providing FOX his ideas for season 2. And while the network has not given a go signal yet, it has already expressed interest in what Murphy had to say.

Accroding to the 50-year old filmmaker, he started off the freshman season with the intent of making three or four of his initial characters survive until the end. These survivors will then spearhead season 2 in a new location, where a new killer will be introduced.

But it won't be just a new killer. There are also new allies that the survivors can rely on. At least ten new characters will be introduced, says the creator, but he cannot reveal any names just yet.

As mentioned, there's still no word on a "Scream Queens" season 2. Stay tuned for additional updates.
