Maura's (Sasha Alexander) kidnapper may turn out to be a person close to her, as the second half of the hit TNT series "Rizzoli & Isles" season 6 reveals what really happened the night she vanished.

When Jane's (Angie Harmon) apartment got razed, they all thought that the culprit has raised his ante a bit. He was no longer satisfied by threatening the detective. He wanted her scared and out of her mind with worry about when he would strike next. Jane, of course, was made of much sterner stuff and was not spooked when the criminal set her digs on fire. What she did not see coming was him abducting her best friend, Maura.

According to TV Guide, Maura's fate will be revealed in the midseason premiere of the current season. Executive producer Jan Nash said, however, that the identity of the suspect would not be exposed immediately. With his hint, it is safe to say that the medical examiner will be rescued alive and will soon be back at work.

"We'll come back and see how we save her. There's a mysterious element to it. It takes a while to figure out what's going on. When they do figure out what's going on, it'll take a while to catch the perpetrator," he said.

Meanwhile, the executive producer also revealed that Maura's assistant, the mysterious Kent (Adam Sinclair), would still work closely with the doctor in season 6B. This prompts speculations that perhaps, he is the one who kidnapped Maura to spite Jane. What his connection to the female detective is, however, is unclear. According to the International Business Times, the Scot is most likely the culprit, as he has the military training to "easily execute abduction." The fact that he also has a strange relationship with both ladies is a point against him.

"Rizzoli and Isles" season 6 will return on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
