"Rick and Morty" season 2 concluded in October and now, fans are wondering what the next episodes will feature and what the creators have in mind for the future of the animated series.

Unfortunately, it's going to be a long wait for fans and series creator Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have not released any major updates about the next season.

There were some hints left from the previous season, though, which should give fans something to be excited about once the show returns.

The last time viewers saw Rick, he was imprisoned somewhere in the galaxy and Earth is left in a vulnerable state under the control of the Galactic Federation. This served as a cliffhanger for fans and they can't wait to find out what happens next to Jerry, Beth, Summer, and Morty, which season 3 should be able to answer.

Now that Rick is nowhere near his grandson, Morty is said to get emotional from his absence, because that would mean he won't get to have odd adventures, International Business Times reported.

Meanwhile, a group of characters from the previous season is rejoining the series — Mr. Meeseeks will come back, Harmon revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. He said that he's making a promise to himself that the characters will be joining the rest of the gang in the upcoming season.

Beth's backstory could also be featured once "Rick and Morty" returns, as previously reported. Harmon revealed that she is one of his favorite characters in the series, and it's possible that her past with her dad, Rick, will be explored.

As for the release date, nothing has been confirmed at this point, but a March 2017 premiere is likely. This speculation was picked up from a post-credit scene from season 2, in which a character was announcing that season 3 will be back in "a year and a half or longer."
