The "Resident Evil" franchise has seen a massive growth in interest with the reveal of "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" video game, and now actress Milla Jovovich has shared via Twitter the first teaser trailer for "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," the final film in the long-running movie adaptation.
The trailer showcases the film's title and then cuts to a very quick snippet of Jovovich's Alice riding a motorcycle through a battlefield littered with debris and explosions all around her. She is also briefly heard stating she will "kill every last one of them." It then cuts to an announcement stating the full-length trailer will release this Aug. 9.
According to Collider, the film will see Alice unite with old friends and an unlikely ally as they head back to the ruins of Raccoon City in order to take down the horde of undead and mutant creatures. It is stated to be the last stand for humanity, following Wesker's (Shawn Roberts) betrayal and the onslaught of enemies in the previous film, "Resident Evil: Retribution."
The report also confirms that Jovovich will be joined by series veterans Ali Larter who plays Claire Redfield and newcomers such as Rola, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, Fraser James and Lee Joon-gi. Shawn Roberts is returning to portray Albert Wesker. It is undetermined if other previous stars such as Michelle Rodriguez and Wentworth Miller will be returning as well.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," as its name suggests, will be the final entry in the franchise. The films started as far back as 2002 and has been going strong for the past 14 years. However, fans have pointed out that other horror film franchises such as the "Friday the Thirteenth" have used "The Final Chapter" subtitle before only to have a reboot or sequel release sometime after.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" will release in Jan. 27, 2017.
