The third season of "Reign" has yet to premiere but its cancellation is already being predicted.
TV by the Numbers recently revealed that the historical fantasy romance is likely to be cancelled by The CW when season 3 ends. One of the reasons for the predicted cancellation is because the network ordered only 18 episodes for the third season instead of the usual 22 episodes. But the prediction remains a speculation since a lot of things can still happen in the course of the entire new season. The network also has yet to make an official announcement regarding the rumors.
Despite the cancellation talks, "Reign" fans should still look forward to the intense plot of its third season because of the debacle among three queens. Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane) will be facing Queen Elizabeth of England (Rachel Skarsten) to keep her away from infiltrating the French Court. But Elizabeth will have the company of Mary's mother-in-law Catherine de' Medici (Megan Follows) in "Reign" season 3.
The official synopsis of the premiere episode titled "Three Queens, Two Tigers" reads:
Queen Mary struggles to hold on to her power in Scotland amidst Queen Elizabeth's campaign to sabotage her with the help of a new ally in Queen Catherine. Meanwhile, with Francis' (Toby Regbo) fate at odds and Elizabeth distracted by temptation in her first love, Robert Dudley (Charlie Carrick), both queens struggle to rule."
In the preview for the said episode, Mary seems to be aware that Elizabeth's presence poses a threat to her and the French Court, and she knows that she has to deal with two queens to save her throne.
"Reign" season 3 will start airing on Friday, Oct. 9, on The CW.
