"Poldark" season 1 ended with the titular character Ross Poldark (Aiden Turner) getting arrested for wrecking and murder. The BBC has just released the first promo trailer for season 2, and while it doesn't show how Ross proves his innocence, it does show Ross smacking George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) in the face, to the delight of the fans.
Movie News Guide indicates that this is a sign of Ross finally stepping up and becoming more aggressive. This simple punch may be a message to inform Warleggan that Ross is not going to go down without a fight.
As stated in a report from Telegraph, season 2 will be based on the third and fourth novels by author Winston Graham given that season 1 was based on the first and second novels. During these books there is a shocking sequence between Ross and his former wife Elizabeth (Heida Reed).
In the fourth novel Ross rapes his ex-wife and according to the report it is uncertain if this will be adapted in the series. Not only is it a difficult plot point to adapt due to how it might affect the show's rating but there is also the fact that Ross and Elizabeth have had consensual sex throughout season 1.
The books also introduce some new characters and one of the most prominently one confirmed thus far for season 2 is John Nettles who will be portraying the wealthy landowner known as Ray Penvenen. Nettles is known for his role in "Midsomer Murders."
According to the report, the series has already been confirmed for a third season and studio Mammoth Pictures will be spearheading the production once again. Aiden Turner has also been confirmed to return for season 3, although it is uncertain if the rest of the cast have also signed on for a third season of the show.
"Poldark" season 2 will premiere this Sept. 4 and is confirmed to air for 10 weeks, officially concluding its run by Nov. 6.
