'Pokemon Go' gen 2 update: players looking forward to new Pokemon, Buddy system

"Pokemon Go" has become one of the most popular mobile games, but as stated in a report from Mobile N Apps, the number of players has significantly dropped in recent weeks. However, a rumored release of more Pokemon, particularly Generation 2 Pokemon, may see players come back to the game.

The report states that several key updates are speculated to launch this September although it is uncertain if these updates will include brand new Pokemon. As it stands, the mobile game only contains Generation 1 Pokemon, which are Pokemon found in the original "Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow" Gameboy games.

Generation 2 Pokemon are those from in the Gameboy Color titles "Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal" such as Totodile, Cyndaquil and Chikorita. It is also noted that there are two Gegeration 1 Pokemon that are still not available in "Pokemon Go," the legendary Pokemon Mew and Mewtwo.

However, Niantic Labs did make a recent announcement confirming that the next update would include a brand new buddy system. This buddy system mirrors what is found in "Pokemon Yellow" and "Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal" as it allows trainer to pick one Pokemon to tail beside the trainer instead of staying in a PokeBall.

Using the buddy system the trainers will be able to get free Candy and other rewards simply by walking with their chosen Pokemon companion. It does not require any other activity from the player such as pushing notifications or commands, essentially rewarding players for simply walking.

The buddy system is the latest main update following the update that implemented the Appraisal System into "Pokemon Go," a feature that allowed players to check the full battle potential of their Pokemon.

Niantic Labs has not announced when this feature will fully implemented. The blog post also reveals that many key updates will arrive this Fall and many fans speculate these updates will include the addition of Generation 2 Pokemon.
