PlayStation VR price: headset could cost as much as PlayStation 4

Players may need to start saving up now if they're planning to get the new PlayStation VR headset.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said that it is likely that the new virtual reality headset will cost just as much as a new console.

House did not provide a specific dollar figure for the PlayStation VR.

The lack of a specific number could mean that Sony has not yet settled on what exactly the price range could be.

As of now, the standard PlayStation 4 (PS4) console with one controller costs $399.95 on Amazon. It's worth noting that Sony is currently expected to start cutting prices for PS4 soon, so that could factor into the pricing of the PlayStation VR.

Consumers who may be thinking of getting the PlayStation VR can also look at its presumed competitors in the market to see what it might ultimately cost. According to Twinfinite, the Oculus Rift headset is expected to be priced somewhere between $200 to $400 when it eventually comes out, and that may be a good baseline for the PlayStation VR.

Considering how pricey the PlayStation VR may ultimately end up being upon release, it's worth asking to see if there's a reason to get it early on or even if there are games to play when it is officially launched.

According to House, players will have plenty of options to choose from when the PlayStation VR headset is released as 10 games are already in development for it.

The 10 titles are also expected to launch by next year, although House did not name what those games are.

Two possible titles include the games that Sony showcased for the headset at Tokyo Game Show. Those two games are "RIGS: Machine Combat League" and "Final Fantasy XIV." Both games are expected but not yet confirmed to be featured for the PlayStation VR headset.
