'Outlander' season 2 spoilers: several time jumps, a new character in Brianna expected

"Outlander" season 2 is already in production and the season 1 finale is scheduled to air this May 30. The second season will be based on the second book of the "Outlander" series by author Diana Gabaldon, "Dragonfly in Amber" and while there is no official premiere date yet, it is expected to air starting August.

According to a report by Venture Capital Post, the second season will feature several time jumps. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will be jumping back to 1968 and then back to the mid-eighteenth century in order to help Jamie prevent the Jacobite uprising.

Fans of the books will know that there is more than one time jump featured this time around as the events go from 1744 to 1745 and back to 1968 at different intervals. And while most of the book's events take place in Paris, France, the report indicates that the production will primarily be in Scotland.

"We'll be building interiors in Scotland. We're going to scout in the south of England, we're going to scout in Eastern Europe; we're looking for places that can be the streets of Paris," stated showrunner Ron Moore in an interview with Zap2It.

Moore also explained that Brianna, Claire's daughter, has yet to be cast and openly expressed the team's desire to find someone who looks like Caitriona  Balfe and Sam Heughan but also has excellent acting capabilities. It cannot just be one or the other.

"You don't want her to look so radically different that there's no way, but it has to be within the bounds. You're looking for a good actress because she's so important going forward," he explained.

Brianna is Claire's daughter in 1968 and is already a fully grown woman. This means that Claire somehow stayed in her present time for twenty years before finally jumping back to Jamie's period. How and why this happened will be answered once season 2 premieres this fall.
