The recently released trailer for "No Man's Sky" points to a June 2016 release window. While this may be good news to fans who have been waiting for the game since its E3 2013 reveal, a report from Podquisition explains that this release schedule hints that the game's development for the PS4 is running into technical problems.
The podcast featured Laura Kate Dale of Destructoid UK, in which she explained that the game was meant to be shown off during a UK event but was pulled out due to technical problems in the game. She also stated that the demo shown during E3 was in fact a PC build despite the developer using a PS4 Dual Shock controller at the time.
It was explained that the biggest problem developer Hello Games is encountering is getting "No Man's Sky" to run smoothly on the PlayStation 4. The game might be running perfectly with minimal issues on the PC but it appears that the PS4 version is encountering numerous compatibility issues that still need to be ironed out.
However, as pointed out by a report from Push Square, platform optimization issues are common for games and that this issue is nothing to cause alarm. It is very likely that the game's June 2016 schedule was decided upon because it would give Hello Games enough time to perfectly optimize the game for its PS4 release.
With June 2016 being the release window for the PC and PS4 version, a report from MacWorld states that a port for Mac users might be available further down the line. The game was never confirmed to be a PS4 exclusive, although with Sony's backing on the game's development, it is likely it will be on the PS4 a long while before it is ported over to the Mac.
The report speculates that if "No Man's Sky" does get a Mac release, it will most likely be in 2017. Even if the time exclusive period for PC and PS4 expires, the report states that there is little chance the game will be ported over to the Xbox One.
