New York Knicks rookie big man Kristaps Porzingis is faring well this season but in Monday's 94–84 loss to the San Antonio Spurs had a scary moment when he suffered a neck strain in the fourth quarter.
Porzingis was battling for a rebound when he fell down and teammate Carmelo Anthony landed on the back of his head.
Despite the scare, Porzingis recorded the first double-double of his career with 13 points and 14 rebounds, also having one assist, three steals, and two blocks.
"I had some stiffness in my neck. It doesn't feel too good. It's nothing serious. I think it'll be fine soon," Porzingis said, according to ESPN.
Following the scuffle for the ball, Porzingis stayed down before being attended to by trainers.
There was uncertainty about the 20-year-old's playing status against the Cleveland Cavaliers today, Wednesday, because of the injury but following Tuesday's practice he stated, according to ESPN, "For now, I think I'm good for tomorrow."
ESPN reported that Knicks head coach Derek Fisher will be cautious with Porzingis following the injury.
The Knicks are doing a better job this season starting at 2–2. In the 2014–15 season, the team finished the regular season with a franchise-worst 17–65 record as they missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Porzingis is a huge piece for New York in its hopes of again becoming a playoff team and the rookie is not disappointing so far.
The fourth overall pick of this year's draft is averaging 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, one block, and 1.8 steals in 23.8 minutes of action per contest in four games played.
That is why the injury was a scary scene for the Knicks but the Latvian feeling well in their recent practice is a good sign, and it seems like there is really no major thing to worry about for the team and the fans.
