'Spider-Man' reboot movie gets official title as 'The Spectacular Spider-Man'?

"The Spectacular Spider-Man" has been the alleged title of the "Spider-Man" reboot ever since Drew Goddard was rumored to direct the project. However, a new report from Latino Review's El Mayimbe (Umberto Gonzalez) states that Sony and Marvel are looking at "Spider-Man: The New Avenger" as the film's official title.

El Mayimbe stated that this is only a rumor and that the working title has not been confirmed by Marvel or Sony representatives. However, Slash Film stated that a high percentage of El Mayimbe's work gives information that turns out to be true, such as his report that informed people when the first "Batman v Superman" trailer would come out.

"Spider-Man: The New Avenger" has also been pointed out as a good, strong title that immediately sets the film apart from the two previous franchises directed by Sam Raimi and Marc Webb. Previous films have been titled "Spider-Man" and "Amazing Spider-Man," and simply using "Spectacular" might be confusing for the casual movie fan.

The title also allows casual moviegoers to instantly realize that this is no longer a stand-alone property. Simply seeing the word "Avenger" in the title lets people recognize that this rebooted "Spider-Man" is now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe filled with other superheroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor.

According to Slash Film, "Spider-Man: The New Avenger" also makes sense since it plays on the title of the first "Captain America" film, "Captain America: The First Avenger."

"Spider-Man: The New Avenger" is scheduled to launch in theaters on July 28, 2017 but the character will make a cameo appearance first in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," which is slated for a May 6, 2016 release. Production on the latter film  is about to begin and it is expected that Sony and Marvel will soon announce who will be cast as the new Spider-Man.
