Season 13 of the CBS procedural drama "NCIS" will not be kind to Ellie Bishop's (Emily Wickersham) family life, TV Fanatic reports.

The former National Security Agency (NSA) agent will reportedly face some marital problems with her husband Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber) in the upcoming installment of the series. Now celebrating her second year at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) camp, Bishop has and is still enjoying her work alongside boss Special Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the rest of the team. Jake, however, is apparently still feeling sore about her decision to leave him behind in the intelligence agency.

In an interview with TV Fanatic, executive producer Gary Glasberg said that the marital conflict between Bishop and her husband will cover much of the first half of season 13.

"Bishop ... has a tremendous arc coming up where her marriage continues to be tested and challenged in ways as her husband remains with the NSA and she's with NCIS so that's going to take a huge toll on her and will manifest itself in a bunch of ways that will be significant all the way through the holidays and beyond," Glasberg said.

Viewers were introduced to Jake last installment, where he struck a surprising friendship with Gibbs. The NSA agent helped the latter in tracking down a Russian assassin. Jake's relationship with his wife, however, was not put in focus. This season, Glasberg promised that much of their marriage will be laid bare for everyone to see.

Meanwhile, Bishop will be working with pal Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) in an undercover mission in the premiere episode. TV Line reports that she will be taking the role of a Marine, while McGee will act as her civilian husband. Wickersham has expressed her excitement over the said plotline, saying that it will be a "pretty fun" gig with her co-star.

As for McGee, season 13 will see him continuing his relationship with girlfriend Delilah (Margo Harshman). The agent apparently has matured enough in the relationship that he is ready to take their connection to the next level.

"NCIS" will return on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
