'NCIS' season 13 spoilers, plot rumors: Gibbs recuperates from injuries; Franks comes back from the dead

Special Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is alive and recuperating in the upcoming season of the CBS' police procedural drama series "NCIS."

Master Herald reports that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) supervisor has survived the near-death experience after being shot twice by Luke Harris (Daniel Zolghadri) in last season's finale. The cliffhanger ending left the viewers wondering if the tough operative could live after the tough ordeal.

Gibbs, along with Senior Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and CIA Officer Joanna Teague (Mimi Rogers), tracked down Luke to Zakho, Iraq. They believed that the boy was being held by a terrorist group known as "The Calling," the same crooks behind the Egypt bombing that killed agent Ned Dorneget (Matt Jones). It turned out Luke was double crossing them, and he was actually a member of the organization. When he had the chance, he shot Gibbs twice, first on the leg and then in the chest, and left him bleeding to death.

Meanwhile, MNR Daily reports that Agent DiNozzo will be taking over Gibbs' job while the NCIS leader is recovering from his injuries. He and Agent Teague will also continue their search for the terrorist group who put their supervisor's life in danger and also for killing their comrade Dorneget.

The website also reports that Mike Franks (Muse Watson) will return for season 13. He was the one who recruited Gibbs to the NCIS after resigning from his post in the U.S. Marine Corps years ago. Although the character had already been killed in season 8, reports speculate that Franks will appear to Gibbs as flashbacks, aiding him in his recovery.

Watson has recently posted a photo of his dressing room in the web, which fans took as confirmation that he is really back for the next season. The caption of the photo reads, "Home at 'NCIS.' Ok, dressing room trailer."

"NCIS" season 13 premieres late September of this year.
