'NBA 2K17' news: Stephen Curry update suggests major changes to gameplay mechanics

NBA2K17 Legend Edition 2K Games

"NBA 2K16" includes NBA star Stephen Curry but as stated by Vine Report, fans are not satisfied given that the character is not able to perform as well as he does in real life, despite having excellent stats in the game. The developers have since responded and this may indicate major gameplay overhauls for "NBA 2K17."

In an interview with Sporting News, gameplay director Mike Wang confirmed that the game's current mechanics would need to be completely altered in order for Stephen Curry to perform as he does in real life. Wang continues to explain that the game's current build just doesn't allow for exception and that this will be changed in the next game.

"Generally, taking deep shots, 30-35 feet, or shooting in traffic, or shooting off the dribble, we naturally penalize those things. Everyone in the league more or less gets penalized in kind of the same way, as they take these bad shots," Wang stated. "Even though Curry is rated a 99 in all three-point ratings, he's still getting hit, just like everybody does. That's where the system has to change a little bit to accommodate what he's doing this year."

In order to make these exceptions the whole system will need to be revised and this indicates that the mechanics of "NBA 2K17" will be unlike any previous game in the series. It is possible that a new code will have to be programmed into the game for te AI to make smart decisions regarding who, when and how these gameplay exceptions can be made.

"NBA 2K17" will launch in September for the PC, Xbox One and PS4, with Kobe Bryant on the cover of the Legend Edition. The standard edition has no official cover star as of the time being, although this will be announced during the upcoming "NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals" championship event.
