'Mobius Final Fantasy' release date; new trailer showcases characters, game details, hints at launch

Mobius Final Fantasy Square-Enix

"Mevius Final Fantasy" is now officially titled "Mobius Final Fantasy" and Square-Enix has just released a trailer showcasing different job classes and two characters that will interact with the hero Wal. Unfortunately, the release date has not yet been given but it is expected to come out in Japan by winter, with a Western release to follow.

The game will release on mobile devices but it is not a spin-off or mini-game. As Droid Gamers pointed out, this is a full-pledged RPG with a full story, well-developed characters, deep gameplay, and hours of exploration. This trailer gives players a first look at the game in action and it does look like an RPG one would find on home consoles.

Wal will be able to change jobs during the game, allowing him to use and combine different abilities. The trailer shows off the White Mage, Ranger, and Thief jobs but Square-Enix has posted on the official website that other jobs like Dark Knight, Warrior, and Hunter will also be available. It is possible that more jobs will be announced as the game nears its release.

Wal will also be able to summon. No official summon has been announced but if "Mobius Final Fantasy" follows the franchise traditions then players should expect to see Ifrit, Shiva, and Bahamut somewhere in the mix.

The trailer also showcases Eco, a fairy-like character that helps Wal during battle by healing his wounds and treating conditions like Poison and Blind. It is possible that Eco may have other features such as serving as the game's save point or mobile shop for equipment and items.

Garland also makes an appearance in the trailer. The "Final Fantasy" franchise is known for using similar characters and monsters in each game, even though no main "Final Fantasy" title is a direct sequel to another. Cid is a recurring character, always depicted as an inventor, and Chocobos have become the franchise' staple means of travel.

This may rule out Garland being the same Garland from the first "Final Fantasy" game. He does resemble the character's design, particularly the Garland featured in "Dissidia Final Fantasy," but it is not yet clear if he plays a villainous role or if he is one of Wal's supporters.
