The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) found a rare gem in reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor, who recently inducted himself in the organization's Hall of Fame through Twitter.
Even if he is not on a press conference talking trash to his opponent, McGregor found a way to exude self-belief, talking about his recent contributions to the UFC through a series of tweets last Feb. 1 and also criticizing the recent trend of injuries that led to cancelled fights.
In McGregor's first tweet he stated, "It's with ease, and with pleasure, that I gift the fans, and the company, back to back super-fights."
The 27-year-old fighter was speaking about his UFC 194 win over Jose Aldo which made him the featherweight kingpin in just 13 seconds, and his upcoming title fight in the lightweight division versus Rafael Dos Anjos in UFC 196 this March.
McGregor followed the first tweet with what appeared to be a jab at UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
"In a time where entire cards get flushed down the toilet over a sore toe," McGregor tweeted next.
Werdum was set to defend his title in a rematch with Cain Velasquez, with the bout originally scheduled to headline UFC 196.
However, Velasquez withdrew from the fight; Werdum followed and also pulled out because of back and toe injuries.
McGregor then followed the first two tweets saying that mixed martial arts (MMA) is on its knees and he is on a throne, also having control over everything.
To end the tweet barrage, McGregor expressed, "I'm happy to announce that I have inducted myself into the UFC hall of fame. Details of event to follow."
McGregor is looking to make history on his bout with Dos Anjos. If successful, he will be the first ever fighter in the UFC to hold multiple titles in different divisions.
