The young Milwaukee Bucks must continue the season for a while without head coach Jason Kidd, who will be missing time to undergo surgery for a hip that has been bothering him since the last years of his playing career.

According to ESPN, a source said the Bucks medical staff has seen in the past few days that the pain brought by the hip is no longer allowing Kidd to coach the way he did in the team's first 29 games this 2015–16 regular season.

The report added that if Kidd undergoes surgery this week, a February return to coaching is a possibility, as the Bucks expect him to be out for only four to six weeks.

"It's been chronic for the last three to four years, since I was in Dallas the last time," Kidd said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"The pain has been to the point where I can't function," the 42-year-old head coach also stated.

Kidd added, "I've taken all the medicine I can do. Talking to the doctors, there's really no good time to do the surgery. I have to fix myself and then we move on and get back to work."

Taking over for Milwaukee is assistant coach Joe Prunty, who will be having his debut when they host the Philadelphia 76ers this Wednesday.

Despite Prunty having the coaching job, Kidd said that his replacement will still be working on offense while assistant coach Sean Sweeney focuses on defense.

Missing Kidd is tough for the Bucks who are not living up to the expectations this 2015–16 regular season.

Last season in Kidd's first year with the team, they competed well and even made it to the playoffs.

But so far this year, the young Milwaukee roster, which is filled with budding talent, is failing to impress and are 13th in the Eastern Conference standings with an 11–18 record.
