The Miami Heat's Gerald Green is now doing fine according to head coach Erik Spoelstra after the veteran guard was hospitalized last Wednesday.
"We're grateful that he's safe and he's healthy right now. Our thoughts are with him and his family," Spoelstra told reporters before their 96–84 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves last Thursday.
Spoelstra declined to comment further regarding the real reason why Green was hospitalized.
According to TMZ Sports, someone made a 911 call last Wednesday morning reporting that the 29-year-old passed out and was bleeding in the valet area of the condominium where he was staying.
TMZ also reported that witnesses said Green was screaming in the lobby of the condominium and had to be restrained before getting him on a stretcher and inside the ambulance.
The Heat made an announcement last Wednesday regarding the incident but did not disclose any reason why Green was hospitalized and where the hospital is.
Meanwhile, Miami star guard Dwyane Wade said, according to ESPN, "Whenever a teammate is sick or there's an illness, we all reach out. That's just what we do."
"Whenever something happens in one of our teammates or family's lives, we all reach out. That's a part of this basketball family that we're all in," the 33-year-old NBA star added.
Heat All-Star forward Chris Bosh aired the same sentiment Wade had regarding Green.
Green was signed by the Heat in the offseason in their efforts of reconstructing a playoff team for the 2015–16 season.
The former Slam Dunk champion impressed in Miami's preseason and in the regular season was an efficient contributor on offense in three games played.
Green is averaging 10.3 points in 21.7 minutes of action per contest in his first year with the organization.
Before playing for Miami, Green spent time with the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, the then New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, and the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He also had experience playing in the NBA Developmental League (D-League), Russia, and China.
