'Marvel's Defenders' release date, spoilers: Showrunners discuss how heroes will unite

Marvel's The Defenders Netflix, Marvel TV

Netflix will begin production for "The Defenders" before the end of the year and the show will see several street-level heroes such as Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) unite as one team. Speaking to IGN, the showrunners discussed how this feat will be accomplished, particularly with the fact that the four shows have very different tones.

Showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who also handled "Daredevil" season 2 when season 1 showrunner Drew Goddard had to step down, will be handling "The Defenders," and in the interview, they stated that some of the characters are already acquainted, making it easier for them to get together and work as a team.

As for some characters who are not acquainted with the others they can still get together thanks to mutual friends or because of the pure necessity to fight the enemy with help.  Marvel TV head Jeff Loeb explained that in many ways this will be the television equivalent of the "Avengers" films.

However, the main difficulty they have been tackling thus far is the different tones of the individual shows and how they'll play with that element when the four heroes come together.

"The tone of the story is how do we best tell a story where Matt, Jessica, Danny, and Luke can interact with each other no matter what they're doing, and whether it is that they're going to be sitting around talking or whether it is that they're going to be fighting side by side. And what are those pairings like? What is Matt like when he's talking to Danny? What is Jessica like when she has to re-encounter Luke?" explained Loeb.

"The Defenders" will enter production before the end of the year and is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017.
