The Los Angeles Lakers may be parting ways with a veteran in shooting guard Nick Young to continue their rebuilding as they look at another losing year this 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season.
In a report by SB Nation's Silver Screen and Roll, Young is one of the players that the Lakers may trade this Dec. 15, along with reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and experienced big man Brandon Bass.
Young joined the Lakers before the 2013–14 season and quickly made an impact being a force coming off the bench.
But as Young continued playing for Los Angeles, his production and minutes dropped especially this season, where he finds himself spending more time on the bench.
This season playing in 18 regular season games so far, the 30-year-old is averaging nine points and 1.7 rebounds in 19.1 minutes of action.
Earlier in the offseason, there were reports that the Lakers were looking to deal away Young to create space in their salary cap, but no team was willing to do business with the rebuilding franchise.
This time around, it might be different for the Lakers if they try to trade Young, who, along with his game going downhill, is also likely losing his role with the emergence of younger guards like Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell.
In a report by Bleacher Report, teams that would potentially make sense for a Young trade would be the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Still, the Lakers should not expect to get a blockbuster deal out of Young, who has only been really known for his shooting capabilities.
What Los Angeles may get in trading the former first round pick is a bigger salary cap which they can use for the 2016 free agency, or players who have expiring contracts by the end of the season and can also be used as trade pieces in future deals.
