'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2 release date: show will see a different version of Vixen

Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen The CW

A report from TV Insider has confirmed that "Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will be bringing in the character Vixen, who was first introduced in an animated short of "Arrow" and later shown in the live-action CW series, portrayed by actress Megalyn E.K. However, the Vixen on "Legends of Tomorrow" will reportedly be a different person.

According to the report, E.K. would not be available to film the role of Vixen for an entire season due to previous commitments to other shows such as "How to Get Away with Murder" and a few film projects. Fortunately, the report reveals that she will remain as the modern-day Vixen and that "Legends of Tomorrow" will introduce a different version of the character.

Given that Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his crew travel through time, it is speculated that they will be recruiting a version of Vixen from a different time period, such as the 1980s or before that. It is also stated that this older Vixen will somehow be related to E.K.'s Mari McCabe although the exact details of their relation were not revealed.

E.K. will continue portraying the McCabe version of Vixen as she is speculated to make guest appearances on "Legends of Tomorrow," "The Flash" or "Arrow." She will also continue voicing the character in the animated projects, further separating this modern-day Vixen from the older one that will be in "Legends of Tomorrow."

Having two versions of the same hero, from two different time periods, is nothing new to the series or its contemporaries. Season 1 introduced an aged Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) when the characters travelled to the future and "The Flash" season 2 introduced Jay Garrick aka older Flash (John Wesley Shipp" from Earth-3).

"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will change things up with the inclusion of this new Vixen, as she will be the first character in the team that does not come from the same time line.
