'Jurassic World' cast news: Easter egg suggests Jeff Goldblum's return

Jurassic World Easter egg hinting the return of Dr. Ian Malcolm Universal via Twitter

"Jurassic World" has been moving forward with its viral marketing campaign, most notably with the launch of the website for the fictional company that "owns" the theme park in the movies. The most recent teaser for the upcoming film comes in the form of an Easter egg. Posted on the film's official Twitter account, it alludes to a character from the previous films.

The Twitter post features a photo of several dinosaur eggs along with the words, "The hunt is on. Happy Easter from Isla Nublar."

Each egg features a QR code. The majority of these QR codes, when scanned by any average smart phone, will bring viewers to screen shots from the movie. The center QR code, however, reveals the real Easter egg. It leads to a photo of a desk with a few scribbles, a calculator, and a book titled "God Creates Dinosaurs" written by one Ian Malcolm.

Dr. Ian Malcolm is a mathematician and an expert on chaos theory. He is one of the protagonists in the 1993 "Jurassic Park" original and is the leading character in the 1997 sequel "The Lost World." Even the title of the book is homage to a line that the character says in the first film:

"God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs."

The Easter egg does not confirm nor deny that actor Jeff Goldblum, who played Malcolm in the earlier movies, will return in "Jurassic World," and it could be nothing more than a nice nod to fans of the original film. However, Screen Rant does cite that the actor is not against portraying characters he had played in the past.

The 62-year-old actor will be reprising his role in Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day 2" so there is a chance he may appear even in just a small cameo in the new "Jurassic World" movie. It is set 22 years after the events of "Jurassic Park" and Dr. Ian Malcolm may have a few things to say about the park re-opening and featuring new, hybrid creations such as the Indominus Rex.
