The first two "Jurassic Park" films did well with legendary director Steven Spielberg at the helm, but the third movie wasn't well-received by viewers and critics alike. So, how does a studio breathe new life into a franchise that has suffered a huge blow like that? Do a soft reboot. There's no doubt that "Jurassic World" was a soft reboot of the franchise. There were a few "Jurassic Park" Easter eggs found in the film, but there was little connection between "Jurassic World" and the original films.

Well, that's about going to change with the sequel. In an interview with CinemaBlend, director J.A. Bayona revealed that "Jurassic World 2" is going to be a sequel to "Jurassic World" and a continuation of the original "Jurassic Park" films at the same time.

"I think somehow it's both. It's a very good question, and what we're doing is a sequel to 'Jurassic World,' but it's definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. It's very interesting. It's always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you're bringing to the story. And I think the story is looking for a connection between 'Jurassic World' and 'Jurassic Park' —more than what 'Jurassic World' did."

Well, Bayona did not exactly elaborate on how the movie would intersect more with the original films. But viewers can expect more "Jurassic Park" connections to appear in "Jurassic World 2." Will some of the original characters make surprise cameos?

Meanwhile, Bayona told ComingSoon that filming will begin in March 2017. He also talked about how the sequel was more of a "collaborative filmmaker experience" between himself, "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow, Spielberg, and producer Frank Marshall.

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2018. The film will star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, and Rafe Spall.
