Despite their poor performance, which saw them ending the season at 20–62 overall mark, Jeremy Lin is confident that the Brooklyn Nets will be able to score at least one of the top free agents in the league.
Lin, who was sidelined for quite some time in the season because of a hamstring injury, expressed his sentiment that he does not expect it to be hard to recruit free agents. In an interview with New York Post, he said, "First of all, it's Brooklyn. It's New York. Second of all, everyone can tell this culture is completely different. You can talk to the players. There's a freshness, a different vibe, and what we did after the All-Star break will help."
He also said that the way Kenny Atkinson, the Nets' coach, handles the team can draw in the free agents. He said, "Players are asking about us because they saw the way that Kenny [Atkinson] coached," he said. "They saw how hard these guys played night-in and night-out, how unselfish we played."
He continued, "They want to be a part of that, so there's already been a lot of interest. People are already asking questions." According to Lin, he and center Brooks Lopez are willing to help their team in recruiting. Meanwhile, Lopez said that the team is focused on building camaraderie among the players, which helped how they played in court. The Nets' culture has already been noticed by the other players in the league.
The Nets will need to boost their lineup, and recruiting from the free-agent market would be a good strategy to do just that. If the team is unable to get a big name to the team, they can always try to look at the up-and-coming players and build them up for their roster. According to iSportsTimes, some of the possible players that they can recruit are George Hill, Darren Collison, Serge Ibaka, Jeff Teague, Taj Gibson, Patrick Patterson, J.J. Redick, Patty Mills, Brandon Jennings, Nikola Mirotić, Michael Carter-Williams, James Johnson, Milos Teodosic, Alex Len, Nerlens Noel, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Kelly Olynyk.
