'House of Cards' season 4 release date ever happening? What will Frank Underwood face?

House of Cards' Kevin Spacy and Robin Wright

Season 4 of "House of Cards" has not yet been officially confirmed by Netflix but series creator Beau Willimon hinted the possibility of a season 4 during an interview with IndieWire. However, he did not outright confirm it.

When asked if he wrote season 3 with a fourth season in mind, Willimon simply answered, "You're absolutely right. There has not been a Season 4 announcement yet," completely dodging the question.

This statement neither denies nor confirms the production of season 4.

If the show does go on, one of the main focal points will be Claire's (Robin Wright) relationship with Frank (Kevin Spacey). During the season 3 finale, Claire declared that she would be leaving him, right in the middle of his struggle for the upcoming elections.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, their separation may turn public and this will affect both of their lives. Speculation has been circulating if Claire will take to public office herself or if she would return to non-profit organizations.

Kevin Spacey's Francis Underwood has gone through numerous scandals throughout the three seasons that the streaming network has released, and now he has to survive through the turmoils of election while facing a publicized divorce.

Willimon told IndieWire, "We had a lot of challenges, not just in terms of what obstacles Frank will face, but also what is the nature of this union between Francis and Claire? Every season we've seen them change, evolve, grow deeper, run into conflicts."

With each season having 13 episodes, fans have speculated that there would be only four seasons, totaling to 52 episodes. This coincides with the title of the show since a standard deck has only 52 cards.

During a public Google+ Hangout session, Willimon responded to this, "We haven't even announced a fourth season, so when it comes to how many seasons of 'House of Cards' there may or may not be, I'll have to steal a line from Francis Underwood: 'You might very well ask that I couldn't possibly comment.'"
