The last time tech giant Apple decided to update its iconic music player, the iPod touch, was way back in 2012. Since then, with the competition frontier changing its landscape, Apple decided to concentrate more on developing its iPhones and iPads in the company's mobile lineups. However, it seems that Apple is taking back customer interest on its other mobile device.

In a surprise launch this week, Apple finally brought out the sixth-generation iPod touch. Fans of the iconic music player will be thrilled to know that Apple has not only updated the looks of the new media player, but has also immensely upgraded the specs under the hood.

The sixth-gen iPod touch now features the A8 processor used in both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus products, which is a big jump over the 2012 version, and the gap between the two versions definitely shows. The new device responds more easily and fluidly to user interface, and apps and features work and perform best on the new device.

Aside from the new processor, the 2015 iPod touch was also improved by adding an 8-MP rear camera with new features. Upgraded from a 5-MP one in 2012, the new camera has added options for slow-motion and burst image capture modes. In addition, the device now has more improved side apps and options such as a faster Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity support, and an added motion hardware for fitness tracking. The new iPod touch also benefits from recent Apple service launches, and has both iOS 8.4 and the new Apple Music service.

The 2015 iPod touch is available in four storage variant, with 128 GB as the maximum. All versions of the new music player also come in six different colors.
