The tattooists are in for an awesome but difficult task as they give their canvases the beastlike edge in the upcoming episode of Spike's "Ink Master."
Cartermatt reports that the new task involves transforming a person into an animal, which is definitely not going to be a walk in the park. The judges have given the artists a very difficult task to execute, one that needs a lot of intricate work. The pressure of the competition may even lead to clashes between them and their human canvases.
Meanwhile, TV Guide reports that an unexpected twist in the game will result to a shocking elimination. Who can possibly go home in what is reputedly "one of the best talent pools" the viewers have seen on the show? Will St. Marq continue his steady stride to the prize, or will it be snatched from behind by one of the other big contenders like Matt O'Baugh?
Last episode was a test of lines for the artists by engraving a dogū, a small clay human-like figure from Japanese culture. The task was an individual challenge, which meant that only one among them would get to decide the next assignment for the human canvases.
Chris, Matt, and Kruseman breezed their way through the test, but it was Chris who impressed the judges the most. The next task was also about lines, as the contestants were ordered to create a Japanese koi fish tattoo. Unlike the previous weeks, it would not be a head-to-head challenge. Instead, they had to battle with guest judge, artist Mike Rubendall of King's Avenue Tattoo.
The tattooists must use an outline of a Koi fish that Rubendall designed, but it's up to them to get creative with the rest of the aspects. Kito and Katy immediately had problems with their human canvases. During the critique, the artists' works were murdered. Tyler's was dull, St. Marq's background too overpowering, and Big Ceeze complained Japanese was not his "style."
In the end, Matt took the prize. The four tattooists who produced the worst outputs were Kito, Big Ceeze, Marisa, and Dave. Then, it was surprise time, as it was the human jury who determined the loser of the competition. Kito's "awful layout" and his persistence to put the blame on his canvas were considered unacceptable and he was sent packing.
"Ink Master" airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on Spike.
