Huawei hopes to take back lost ground in terms of the mid-range smartphones market with the recently-released Huawei SnapTo.
The Huawei SnapTo is a smart alternative for those wanting to get fast connectivity without shelling out too much cash. The device, although in the mid-range category in terms of specs, is an LTE-capable budget smartphone.
Design and build
Since the SnapTo is marketed as a budget phone alternative, nothing in its design stands out from others in the same category. It has a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 720 x 1280 resolution. Also present is a 2 MP camera on the front and a 5 MP main shooter. Other features in the design are also straight out plain: the volume controls and lock buttons are on the right side, headphone jack is at the top, and the main camera is partnered with an LED flash.
Software
Rather than coming with a native, stock Android, the Huawei SnapTo comes with the Emotion UI, Huawei's own take on Android based on KitKat 4.4. For those who have been using a device on 5.0 Lollipop before switching, this would come as a let-down.
Huawei's platform doesn't do that much in terms of performance, as it focuses more on re-skinning the stock Android look. True, most users will not have the chance to enjoy the newest Android's feature updates like improved notifications, but for those who enjoy a simple look in terms of device platforms, the SnapTo is a good device to use.
Performance
As with other mid-range phones, the SnapTo doesn't offer much in terms of specs. There are no sterling features or tech-savvy options; camera is good; and for those who want fast connectivity, the LTE option is just fine. Call quality over the LTE network is good, and connections remain consistent even when the user goes from place to place.
